Most cultures have divine beings who are simultaneously male and female. Indeed, world mythology is filled with androgynous deities. Androgyny incorporates a notion of totality. Androgynous deities may represent balance, union, harmony, and resolution of all dichotomies.

In Greek culture; Herm-aphrodite is the offspring of Hermes (Messenger of the Gods) & Aphrodites(Goddess of Love).
